Karnataka has the largest D.Pharm capacity in South India — 346+ PCI-approved colleges spread across Bengaluru, Mysuru, Hubballi, Kalaburagi, Belagavi, and Mangaluru. Two parallel admission tracks: KCET counselling (govt + aided) and management quota (private).

Track 1: KCET counselling (govt seats)

For government and aided seats — the cheapest fees, but limited to top CET ranks.

  1. Apply for KCET
kea.kar.nic.in opens applications in February. Pharmacy stream is part of the main CET. Form fee ₹650.
  2. Sit the exam (early May)
Two-day CET. Pharmacy uses the Biology / Maths paper. 60 questions, 70 minutes per subject.
  3. Result + rank list (mid-May)
Karnataka rank published with your CET score and category-adjusted rank.
  4. Counselling registration
Pay ₹2,500 counselling fee on KEA portal. Upload documents.
  5. Choice filling
List preferred colleges in order. KEA allocates based on rank + your choice list. ~10 rounds total.
  6. Reporting + admission
Pay college fees within 7 days of allotment. Submit originals at the college for verification.

Cutoff guidance (general category):

  • Government college: Top 30% CET rank
  • Aided private: Top 60% CET rank

Track 2: Management quota (direct admission)

For students who didn't sit CET, scored below the government cutoff, or want to start the admission process immediately.

  1. Pick 2-3 colleges
Use dpharm.org's filter to find colleges that fit your fees + district.
  2. Apply directly to each
Each college has its own admission form. Form fee ₹500–₹1,000.
  3. Provisional offer (1-3 days)
Most colleges respond within 72 hours if marks meet their cutoff.
  4. Document verification
Visit the college (or send originals via courier).
  5. First-instalment fee
50% of year-1 tuition + admission fee. DD or NEFT.

End-to-end: 7-10 days.

FAQs

Is the KCET pharmacy stream the same as the engineering one?
Same exam, different subject paper. Pharmacy uses the Biology and Chemistry sections. You don't need Mathematics if you took PCB in 10+2.
Can I do D.Pharm in Karnataka if my 10+2 was from CBSE / ICSE?
Yes. KEA accepts every recognised national board. You'll need a Migration Certificate from your old board.
What's the actual cost of the cheapest govt college?
Government Pharmacy Institute Bangalore charges around ₹15,000–₹20,000 per year. Total 2-year cost (with hostel + books + exam fees) is around ₹80,000–₹1L.
Are direct-admission and CET seats the same degree?
Yes. Both lead to the same PCI-recognised D.Pharm certificate. Drug Licence and pharmacist registration treat them identically.
Where do I find a verified counsellor in Karnataka?
dpharm.org's counsellor desk routes Karnataka leads to Altaf Mulla — a 12-year admission specialist. Call back within 2 hours of your enquiry.
